FALCON QUEST TITLE SEQUENCE

The goal of this project was to tell a story visually and kinetically through the opening title sequence of a movie. For my fictional movie plot, I wrote about a scientist who realizes that the bird specimens she is studying are not organic matter but rather synthetic and mechanical materials. She realizes that her employer is covering up a government program, which seeks to develop spy equipment that looks and acts like a real bird but is actually a machine.

In the title sequence, several close up shots of birds are used to convey this discovery. From the beginning, the bird feathers look organic, but still appear to be moving in an unnatural, programmed fashion. As the viewer dives deeper, they notice the moving, mechanical parts in the eye until finally the shot goes into the eye and spinning gears emerge from the darkness.

CREATING A MOOD BOARD

After developing the story, I gathered mood board imagery to begin exploring how I wanted the sequence to feel.

SKETCHING STORYBOARD THUMBNAILS

Small thumbnail ideas were sketched to start forming a better picture of what each segment of the piece would look like. After a sequence of thumbnails was selected, compositions were created in Illustrator and then animated in AfterEffects.
